In today’s world, there are a million different ways a person can market themselves—social media, television, radio, readings, paid media…the list goes on. And whether you’re a first-time published author or one that has had multiple published books, a little guidance in how to better market yourself is always beneficial.

Good news is, Hippo Camp: A Conference for Creative Nonfiction Writers is going to offer just that in multiple breakout sessions. You won’t want to miss the broad array of talented speakers who will help boost you in every way when it comes to writing. But, for now, here are some sneak peeks into a few of the marketing sessions.

I Have an Author Website. Now What? with Mandy Pennington

It’s one thing to build, but another thing to attract. In this session, Pennington is going to walk past the steps of actually creating a website, to how to engage an audience and make them want to be part of your community. She will teach you how to combine your marketing strategies and help you build off of each of them.

Pitch Yourself as a Guest on TV News or Radio Shows with Joey Garcia

Let Garcia show you how to make the most of your 3-8 minutes on the air. Sure, juicy talking points are key, but there’s more to it than that. In this session, Garcia is going to lay out six methods to take on air that will create enough excitement that media keeps wanting you to come back!

Getting your Words in the Air with Amy Eaton

Let’s become pro’s at public readings together!  No matter the style of your writing, the venue, or amount of people, Eaton is going to give you simple techniques to help you truly impact your audience. She’s also going to go through the common concerns and problems such as volume, speed, eye contact, etc.

What Train Wrecks Can Teach Authors About Talking To Media with Dave Pidgeon

In creative nonfiction, authors are often times writing on sensitive topics that occurred in their personal life, which can lend itself to some very difficult questions from the media and/or audience. In this session, let Pidgeon use his personal experiences over the course of six years to help you avoid “reacting” to the question and, instead, use it as more of a platform for your story.

If any of these sessions stood out to you, you’re interested in finding out more about the conference sessions, or you want to register, please visit our website’s main page.
