Something we at Hippocampus feel isn’t discussed at writing conferences enough is author websites and marketing. It’s more than “send a Tweet!”

That’s why we’re thrilled Mandy Pennington is back at HippoCamp for a second year, this year for a breakout session called “I Have an Author Website: Now What?” We asked her a few questions about her upcoming return to Lancaster.

HM: Tell us a little about your involvement in HippoCamp this year. What are you most excited to share during your session?

MP: We’ll explore how to put things together (i.e. how to work your website into your marketing), traffic-driving techniques and how to measure them, finding new audiences and more. I hope it’ll be helpful (and I promise to make it somewhat entertaining!).

Why do you love true stories?

They remind us of what it means to be human.

What made you decide to participate in HippoCamp this year as a speaker?

Last year was my first year at HippoCamp, and I had such a wonderful time that I couldn’t wait to submit to speak again! The community is so welcoming and encouraging. So many opportunities to connect and learn from each other.

Attendees can learn more about you on our speaker’s page, of course, but there’s more to you than that bio! Share a fun fact with us, something we may be surprised to know.

I still have two baby teeth!

Aside from preparing for HippoCamp 2018 (of course!), what are you working on? Any recent or upcoming projects/publications you can share?

I wrote an interactive play that was accepted into the Scranton Fringe Festival at the end of September. It’s titled “My Condolences” and will be produced by the New Vintage Ensemble.

Since you’ll also be attending the conference, what are you most looking forward to learning or doing when you’re not wearing your “speaker hat?”

Meeting and speaking with other writers. Hearing their stories.

We love introducing Lancaster to attendees. What are you looking forward to about your visit?

I’ve only spent a little time in Lancaster but it’s incredibly charming!
