Memoir is a genre composed of personal memories, but what happens when those memories are blurry or missing altogether? Can you still write about what you don’t remember?
In this workshop, we’ll discuss the ways memory is scientifically prone to distortion. We’ll consider works by writers who’ve used memory distortion as literary technique, identify our own challenges with memory and practice rendering our experiences to the page.
Participants will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of why their memories have been inaccessible, along with a plan for how to put difficult experiences into words once they get home.
Note: Pre-conference intensive workshops are optional add-ons and require separate registration — $60. Workshops run for three hours with a 15-minute snack break included (coffee, tea, fruit, etc.)
